MTEC Shift Spring Kit
MTEC has released a spring shift kit for the Subaru BRZ. We had these installed in our silver car at 86Expo and everyone that tried the shifter could not believe the difference these made. These helps guide the shifter into the right gears. I'll let the youtube videos do the taking but for the money nothing will improve shifting like these do!
Combine this with the FT86SF short shifter for an unbelievable quick and short shift.

One of my favorite upgrades.
A small, inexpensive upgrade that goes a long way. Massively improves the feel of the shifter, as it now gently “snaps” into gear with less effort. Highly recommended, as the shifter is one of the things used most often in the car.

Better shifting feel
Bought the MTEC shifter springs to replace the stock ones, and the result is much snappier and notchy shifting. An inexpensive and easy way to enhance the driving experience.

Why did I wait this long
This spring kit is really easy once t/mission mount removed and the difference is night and day. Now I don’t have to dig to find the right gear placement and you will mostly forget about how it was before because it works so good. Good time to change trans mount upgrade I did mine while it was out.

Worthwhile upgrade!
The video really makes the installation of this seem easy, mostly because they're using a lift. For an average car person, using jack stands, it's gonna be a bit tougher to work on. Driver side spring was a piece of cake despite that. Passenger side is where it gets a bit tricky. Tight spot around the exhaust, but workable with a deep socket or short extension (1 inch worked best for me). If you don't have one of those, don't make the same mistake I did, and go get one before doing this, it's gonna save TONS of frustration. As far as feel of shifting goes, a noticeable difference! A lot more crisp and tight. Overall, worthwhile if you don't struggle with the passenger side like I did!

Small part, BIG upgrade
Wow these made a big difference in the stock shifter. I thought the stock shifter already felt solid but these made a huge different! Tip for install, when installing the passenger side spring, have someone hold the shifter to the right toward 5th and 6th gear to get the bolt to thread on correctly. Make sure you get ALL of the green gunk off the bolt so you don't risk stripping it. This was not mentioned in the install video. Overall definitely recommend!

Greater Feel
Installation is simple except I found that putting in the bolt with the bump that holds the shifter spring was hard to get back on. Definitely get a flashlight as it is helpful. Installed the Perrin shifter bushing like many others here and it makes the car's shifter feel a lot more solid and notchy. Definitely recommend!

Perfect!
I installed these springs when changing the transmission fluid with some Motul. The one on the passenger side is a little tough to get at, but doable. I highly recommend this mod to anyone. Definitely worth the trouble! Shifting is so much better now. I’ve found myself shifting extra just to try it. Get them!

Click not clunk
WOW! What a difference! When you’ve installed these springs you no longer have slop at all when switching gears. Every gear clicks solid into place instead of having any sort of crunch or awkward clunk.

WOW
These bad boys along with the heavier Raseng shift knob, Perrin and Whiteline bushing combo made a huuuuuuge difference in shifting. It's become more reliable, intuitive, and enjoyable. Literally clicks into place every time, despite my uncertainty stemmed from driving on stock shift feel for so long. Definitely clean out the loctite or you're gonna have a bad time. I think this and the bushings should just be bundled altogether.

Enhances shifting feel
Installation was straight forward, as I had my car on a lift. Immediately after installing it, I felt the much stiffer gear lever. The spring helps guide the gears exactly where you want it to go. 5-4 downshifts have become much quicker and easier as the gear lever doesn't get caught on the gates anymore. Well worth it for the price.

So Much Better!
Installation is not as easy as the video makes it seem, but it is a great deal of help. That may be my lack of appropriate tools. A lift, better lighting and a socket that is a little more shallow may have helped. But WOW was it worth it. Every shift feels very solid and snaps into place exactly where you want it. My issue with the stock springs was downshifting from 5th to 4th I would occasionally get caught on the gate and miss. Not any more, the stick centers to neutral much quicker and I haven't missed a shift since. I installed the Perrin shifter bushing at the same time. Very impressed with both.
