PRODUCT FEATURE: GrimmSpeed's Post Maf Hose Kit 2022+ BRZ/GR86

For this product feature, we want to highlight an engine upgrade that is simple, affordable, and that most of you can perform with basic hand tools. Now the reason why this article features the GrimmSpeed Post MAF Hose Kit, is because the 2022+ BRZ and GR86 are naturally aspirated just like the previous generation. With that being said, you are limited to bolt-ons in terms of getting more performance out of the engine unless you spend a significant amount of money and add a turbocharger or supercharger, which will ultimately lead to an engine rebuild with stronger internals.

However,  those of you who opted to purchase a 2022+ BRZ or GR86 know that these cars weren’t built to win any horsepower competitions. As mentioned before in some previous articles, the BRZ/86 was designed to provide the traditional grassroots front-engine, rear wheel drive sportscar experience in an affordable package, where driver skill overcomes horsepower to win events. Much akin to the Mazda Miata.

Now most enthusiasts who purchase the 2^nd gen 86 or BRZ will get a cat-back exhaust system, a cold air intake setup, and at some point, a tubular exhaust manifold will get added to the list. These are common bolt-on upgrades for these cars without taking a deep dive into forced induction.

However, there are those of you who are smart, and just want to keep the car stock and reliable, but wouldn’t mind just a little push is all when it comes to performance. And that’s why we’d like to feature GrimmSpeed’s Post Maf Hose Kit.

 

 

 

 

In this photo, you will notice GrimmSpeed’s unit when compared to the OEM MAF hose. Notice how the OEM MAF hose is corrugated, and it has a collector tank that is there to suppress the intake noise, which is wild, because we all like intake noises.

 

The reason why the GrimmSpeed unit will improve the performance, is because there are no corrugations in the design, and it features multi-layer silicone construction that is heat-resistant, but most importantly it features a smooth interior wall. So, when your throttle body opens, there is no air turbulence that would otherwise be interrupted with the OEM accordion-style hose. The result is a faster throttle response, and you will get a little extra increase with both horsepower and torque. Plus, you get a little improvement in the intake suction noise without that plastic OEM air tank.

 

THE INSTALLATION IS VERY SIMPLE

Installation will require an 8mm and 10mm socket, along with a set of pliers. The OEM MAF hosed is held on by a pair of worm clamps on each side of the intake, and there is a clamp that secures the smaller hose on top of the intake pipe. The worm clamp near the throttle body is the 8mm clamp fitting, while the clamp on the filter side of the pipe is 10mm. Once you get those loose, use pliers to open up the clamp securing the small hose, move it out of the way just like the video illustrates, and you can remove the hose. Once you get the GrimmSpeed MAF hose in, it includes new 8mm worm clamps, and the top hose simply fits into place, and that is it.

Because this is a direct replacement filter for the OEM panel filter in the airbox that flows 62% better than OEM. It has a 99.1% flow efficiency, and through GrimmSpeed’s development, they discovered performance gains of +6HP and +9WTQ just with this panel filter alone. It can provide you with up to 20K miles of performance, and although reusable, it is $62.00 so it is a small price to pay in terms of maintenance, and in 20k miles you should have performed 4 oil changes in that mileage interval anyways.
